MEET Patrick Yung
Patrick is especially interested in helping with:
Cultural Identity & Belonging
Life Transitions
Anxiety and Stress
Overcoming Trauma
Low Mood and Depression
When you’re struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, or other challenges, it can be easy to focus on the immediate problem and lose sight of the bigger picture. I believe effective therapy starts with understanding you as a whole person—your experiences, identity, relationships, strengths, and the circumstances that have shaped who you are.
I work with adults and adolescents from a wide range of cultural, family, and individual backgrounds. My approach is collaborative and identity-informed, with an emphasis on understanding what matters most to you and tailoring therapy to your particular needs and goals. I strive to create an environment where you can feel comfortable bringing your own perspective to our work together.
When we begin, I’ll take the time to get to know you—your strengths, challenges, experiences, and what you hope will be different in your life. Together, we’ll develop clear goals and a plan for therapy that fits your needs, preferences, and pace.
My approach draws from research-supported treatments including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Depending on your goals, our work may involve developing a better understanding of patterns that are keeping you stuck, learning practical strategies for navigating difficult thoughts and emotions, and building skills that help you move toward a more meaningful and satisfying life.
As a Pre-Doctoral Resident, I am currently in the final stages of completing my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University. My previous clinical training has taken place across a variety of settings, including primary care, hospital, school board, and university counselling services. These experiences have strengthened my appreciation for the many different ways that personal circumstances, relationships, culture, and identity can influence mental health and well-being.
Outside of my clinical work, you’ll often find me walking or hiking with my family and large dog, spending too much money on coffee, or enjoying some quiet time at home.
Read my article on sleep and insomnia: I’m so good at not sleeping, I can do it with my eyes closed.
